Firstly, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017!! By the time this post appears, most of you will probably be reading it in 2017. I wanted to close this year with a bang, and thus rushed through the past few days to churn out the last 2 chapters and some special extra :3
Just in time too, as today's actually the last day of 2016. By far the craziest year imho in my humble existence as a human, though I'm not going to touch on world issues here in this post, not really my forte haha... it's just too depressing and we should only talk about happy things, right?!
I can't believe it has been just a mere 3 weeks since I'd posted my first chapter of "World's End no Niwa" and now we're at the last... It really feels like it has been longer...probably because I'm the only person working on everything... not complaining though, I really love it and the beautiful art really makes it so easy to motivate myself to keep on working on it.
This last chapter introduce me to something scary though... SFXs!!!!! O.MAI.GAWD.........
I think I developed carpal tunnel from typing so many of them (first into a document when translating, then again while typesetting). The amount of SFX during a sex scene in a yaoi manga is no joke!!! Most of the time I just skate over them while reading myself, but after this I have new found respect for people that typeset them.
On a serious note, this is my own personal review of this manga, and I don't know how many people will read this later on, but maybe I'm being a little protective of both sensei and my own effort...
But for some of the readers that I have seen from some sites bashing on this, I really feel bad. After some marathon translating since starting this site, I have come to have some sort of epiphany towards Japanese to English translation. While Japanese is not a difficult language to pick up, translating it to another language is vastly different from just reading it and understanding what's going on in your head.
The language surprisingly doesn't translate well to English and I truly felt that I'm not doing this manga any justice. It's so under rated and the nuances of the story are kind of lost when I translated it. I mean, I tried, really, there were times where I was really frustrated by my inability to muster some sort of awesome vocab to bring the original text to justice in English. Maybe I'm bias to Motteke sensei, I have after all am being stalkerishly-having read ALL her works so far.
Motteke sensei definitely writes and draw great stories. I have no doubt about it. I won't really throw it away here, but I have already started working on her other stories and I can tell you, I can't help read it despite myself even though there are some tropes within the yaoi genre that's definitely not my moe at all. It's that good!!!!!!!! So, I know what she can do and this manga is her attempt at producing a laid back story (because the rest of her BL works are quite intense) yet it's no less deep if you care to look under the surface.
What irks me though is just that most people I've come across commenting reading this story is "WHERE'S THE SEX?!" "DNF-lame, so boring". WHAT?! Come on, of course, reading yaoi is basically because we all are addicted to those sex scenes, but seriously, if i really want to see just sex between two guys, i might as well just go read hardcore hentai yaoi or bara yaoi...
It's tasteful when the sex are a machinism of the story to bring it along rather than just a glorified excuse to draw some guyxguy sex. I mean, I don't hate those sorry excuse for a BL stories, sometimes, it's really great to just read some sexy times between two delicious looking guys. That said though, great stories that actually matters and let you think about deeper things are the kind that I usually preferred. I realized that when I thought about the BL authors that I like (like Ogawa Chise, Yoneda Kou, Ogeretsu Tanaka, etc...- though I'm currently going through a Scarlet Beriko craze)
Anyways, anyone taking the time to read this, thank you~ and I would really appreciate feedback and your review about this manga. You can leave comments here or email, I would prefer it much more than me just trawling many sites just to read the comments... it's too hectic.
And so for the last time, happy reading "World's End no Niwa"! I'm going to Japan again in April next year and I plan to buy a physical copy of this when I'm there and much more (I have the digital edition, but I just really love this so much that I'm going to buy a physical copy to spazz over as well). If you can possible, please support Motteke sensei by buying her works! Reading for free online is nice and all, but if we sometimes don't fork out a few dollars to buy an original copy, these mangaka eventually disappear because they can't make a living out of it. (Pretty sure I'd read that somewhere and I agree)
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! How's everyone doing this holiday season? I've spent the whole week being sick in bed with a gut inflammation and now a cold. I finally felt better today to sit in front of the computer without feeling dizzy, though I'm still sniffling and coughing away, le siiigh...
So, what I did today was finishing up Chapter 4 typeset for "World's End no Niwa". Are you all excited for the new update? :3
During the downtime, I was absorbing all the comments from various site regarding my translation and there were mixed reactions about my translation notes in my translations. Some loved it and looked forward to it, some hate it.
I really thought about it and while I've decided I won't be liberal with it, I refuse to stop with it completely. To me, it's a tiny way of me to speak with the people (you all) that's reading my translations. I don't really have a lot of friends that read manga let alone BL, so it's kind of my little way to share what I felt at some specific moments in it with you guys and it's fun that way.
To not do it at all will take away my fun completely and why would I do something that's not fun for me, right?
So, whining aside, I think this is my finest typesetting yet, so far. I did a lot of research based on the scanlations of some groups I really liked and also found some really good typesetting guide online. So, I hope you guys enjoy reading this chapter as much as I have enjoyed typesetting it!
This is a little announcement about the issue regarding the "reader" I got on my blog for my translations...After some fiddling about, and feedbacks from you guys, I've decided to stick with the gallery version for the moment until Weebly comes out with better ways or maybe in the future when I switch host or something...
It's very easy, before reading, please hit the "full screen" button on your browser. This way you won't have the need to use magnifier in order to read it. When your browser goes full screen, the images auto scale to become the full size.
On Google Chrome : Press F11 to go in and out of full screen mode.
On Mozilla Firefox: It is the same, F11 key.
On Microsoft Edge: This browser doesn't support full screen mode
On Internet Explorer 11: F11 key.
On Apple Safari (Windows): F11 key.
On Apple Safari: CTRL+CMD+F (to go in and out of full screen, I think, at least, that's what I get when I googled).
Let me know if some of these methods are wrong and sorry for the troubles.
Wow, I was thinking that I would need a week to finish chapter 3 as it have about 40 pages and it was just 100 words lesser than Chapter 1. But surprisingly, this chapter was much easier to translate than chapter 2. There was a 2 pages in chapter 2 where I was struggling to transfer the sentences into English and it took me awhile.
Doesn't help either that this manga is mostly in Osaka and Nagoya dialect instead of standard Japanese. Ah, it was a bit challenging at times for me. But I'm happy able to release another chapter so soon. Then again, also a little sad cause it means we are edging closer to the ending!
Ah! Well, about the slideshow for the chapter, I just want to mention again that I'm really sorry that I can't do anything about the size of it. But unless Weebly actually take all those suggestions made in their suggestion forum into actions.
For now, I'm already using the largest size for the slideshow... I understand it's a bit of a size issue to view on PC, but on mobile it should be still okay. But today for this chapter, I'm going to try a gallery mode instead.
Please leave me feedback if you think the gallery is better than the slideshow. If it's much better option than the slider, I will need to change the reading method for previous chapters. That's why, it's very important, so please feedback to me about it!!
Also, hop on board the feels train, because this chapter is all about them feels.
I've slaved through this for 3 days to bring you Chapter 2 of "World's End no Niwa". Hope you guys will enjoy the story and if you like it enough, please buy the actual copy instead of begging of raws on the internet... I was curious about how the reception for this goes, since it was being deliberately downvoted over at bato.to, so I chance upon mangago and there was a lot of enthusiastic readers that responded well to this.
However, there was quite a few post that goes around asking for raws of this.
I want to say this, I bought this with my own money. It's not very expensive, if you buy it through Amazon with Kindle (and seriously, as long as you have a smart phone or a computer, you can have kindle on them) for only 649 yen and buying it gives me 340+ amazon points.
What this means is that I literally bought this for half the price because the point is a lot, it's almost enough to buy another tankobon at half price or more (if you buy shoujo tank, they are usually just 400 yen to 432 yen).
It's just a few dollars... please help these small times mangaka out... I would really love for sensei to have a long career because her art is simply just too good! It's very hard to find BL mangaka with this sort of drawing style, so please don't ruin it for people. Okay? Pretty please :)
